SWAG (Students With Alternative Goals) Initiative
Ambridge Area Chamber Business Leaders attended the first meeting to participate in a program called the SWAG initiative. The meeting was held by gracious host Debi Leopardi and the Ambridge Regional Distribution and Manufacturing Center. SWAG (Students With Alternative Goals) is a program initiated by Ambridge School District in which students are able to take courses which specifically deal with school-to-work transition. Mrs. Brewer from the Ambridge Area High School indicated students’ classes will be offered in the morning and will focus on communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills as well as the latest technology applications. Students will be able to leave school to either work in an established field or to participate in the mentoring program, which is being offered within the business community of Ambridge. We wish the inaugural placement of several students great success and applaud the Chamber businesses for their willingness to participate in this initial placement of students.
If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the Chamber and we will put you in touch with SWAG coordinators.

The 5K route starts in front of Quaker Valley High School along Beaver Street and goes through Leetsdale neighborhoods before turning into the Leetsdale Industrial Park and along the scenic Ohio River. The course ends with a celebration at Henle Park where participants can warm themselves fireside during the awards ceremony. They’ll utilize the ChronoTrack timing system this year for precise finish times. Race times and photo finish will be available immediately following the race. Medals will be awarded for both men and women in various age groups while racers enjoy soft pretzels, fruit, Gatorade and water. A 2-mile walking route is also available, which starts at Quaker Valley High School minutes after 9:00am and ends at Henle Park. Race T-shirts are available to all runners and walkers who pre-registered by Nov. 1st - tees for late registrants available on race day while supplies last.
They will be doing a FREE kids fun run for all kids 8 and under. All participants will receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last) and the first 50 boy and 50 girl finishers will receive a finisher medal. The fun run will begin minutes after the walkers 2-miler starts and will take the children down Beaver, turning at Spencer Street, then at Broad Street, and then ending at Henle Park at the same finish line as the adult unner/walkers.
