SWAG (Students With Alternative Goals) Initiative

Ambridge Area Chamber Business Leaders attended the first meeting to participate in a program called the SWAG initiative. The meeting was  held by gracious host Debi Leopardi and the Ambridge Regional Distribution and Manufacturing Center.  SWAG (Students With Alternative Goals) is a program initiated by Ambridge School District in which students are able to take courses which specifically deal with school-to-work transition. Mrs. Brewer from the Ambridge Area High School indicated students’ classes will be offered in the morning and will focus on communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills as well as the latest technology applications. Students will be able to leave school to either work in an established field or to participate in the mentoring program, which is being offered within the business community of Ambridge.  We wish the inaugural placement of several students great success and applaud the Chamber businesses for their willingness to participate in this initial placement of students.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the Chamber and we will put you in touch with SWAG coordinators.

EVENTS:

Recycled Dreams at the Silk House Cafe
Recycled Dreams has invited local collectors to come out and sell their antiques and collectibles that don’t fit in their collections anymore on Saturday, July 26. This will be held in the lot beside their store as well as in their back yard. They still have a few spots for vendors: all spots are $20. Please call 412-974-8108 if you are interested in setting up. Crafters are also welcome to set up. Looks to be a beautiful, dry Saturday so this would be a great day to be out. There is no admittance fee for shoppers and gates will promptly open at 10am and the sale will go until 3pm or until the last shopper leaves.
